Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program to help heart patients recover quickly and improve their overall physical, mental and social functioning. The goal is to stabilize, slow or even reverse the progression of cardiovascular disease, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease, another cardiac event or death. Combining all aspects of cardiovascular rehabilitation in appropriate patients improves functional capacity and quality of life, reduces risk factors and may create a sense of well-being and optimism about the future.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a programme of education and exercise classes that teaches you about your lungs, how to exercise and do activities with less shortness of breath, and how to "live" better with your lung condition.

The exercise classes will help you be more active with less shortness of breath. Usually, you will be exercising both your arms and legs. The exercise classes will help you feel better and become stronger by helping you get into better shape.

Exercise
As there is a difference between healthy individuals and their physical exercise capacity and abilities, so there is a wider variability between sufferers of heart disease.
It is vital that exercise programmes are designed around the individual, their level of fitness, how coordinated they are and how heart disease limits them.
We conduct individual assessments to determine the abilities of our clients to enable us to offer them exercise programmes designed specifically for them. Clients are then grouped to be able to exercise alongside others of similar ability.
It is important that misconceptions are dealt with appropriately and clients need to know how often, how long and at what intensity they should exercise. Rehabilitation is not competitive and “PAIN” is a warning so comments such as “No pain, No gain” are false and dangerous if applied by those who have heart disease.
Exercise should be comfortable, enjoyable and social and we include all of these factors in our rehabilitation sessions - one final thought - exercise unlike a quick medication treatment that can be taken over several days to achieve the desired outcome needs to be a “Rest of life practice” to maintain the benefits. With that in mind we offer long term exercise programmes after clients complete their rehabilitation.
